While genetics certainly help, aging gracefully also boils down to a few healthy habits (and tricks of the trade). As The Zoe Report's beauty director, Stephanie Montes, points out, "Picking the right anti-aging ingredients, loading up on antioxidants and minimizing stress can all have a huge impact on your physical appearance." Below, read up on what you can do every day to help your body and mind age gracefully:
Be diligent with your skincare routine. "Look for daily skincare products that include peptides, which work to stimulate collagen production and prevent fine lines," writes Montes. She suggests applying sunscreen daily, and incorporating an eye cream into your regimen "stat," as the "skin around your eyes is the thinnest and has very few oil glands."
Manage your stress. Pushing self-care to the side will eventually manifest on your face and in your mind. "Stress can take a toll on your brain, increase blood pressure, and disrupt your sleeping habits, all of which age you," she clarifies. We love Olly's Restful Sleep Melatonin Gummies ($14) for a good night sleep and turn to different breathing techniques to help manage stress.
Eat right. "Since you are what you eat, your diet makes a huge difference in how you age and feel," she explains. She recommends loading up on fruits and vegetables for a healthy dose of antioxidants and vitamins, and specifies that resveratrol, a powerful antioxidant found in grapes, has even been shown to help prevent premature aging. If all else fails, science says to stick to the Mediterranean diet.
