Jackson, Wyoming: where ski conditions are always favorable, fireplaces are crackling, and Western charm is rampant. For winter enthusiasts, there is no better place to experience the true white north wilderness. The key to experiencing the season to the fullest? A cozy respite to retreat in the evenings. Enter Anvil Hotel, a 49-room 1950s motel transformed by the ever-popular Brooklyn-based Studio Tack.

Located a stone's throw away from Jackson Hole's infamous elk antler arch, the Anvil Hotel is the West's answer to Scribner's Catskill Lodge, where hipster charm meets cozy nostalgia. Wood-burning fireplaces, custom Woolrich blankets, and craft cocktails are just a few of the details that make this hotel worth the visit. This season, Anvil has made it even more enticing to visit and stay a while, with a new Explorer's Program, which offers a range of curated experiences for outdoor travelers, ranging from dog sledding to hot springs, and snowmobile tours.

Whether you're looking for the perfect après-ski enclave, want to experience the Western wilderness to its fullest, or simply need to hunker down and relax by the fire, the Anvil is the perfect respite. Read a book by the fire or grab a craft cocktail at the hotel restaurant, Glorietta.

The small motel was refurbished in 2017 by Erik Warner, who spent many summers in Jackson working in local hotels. Having dreamed of one day opening his own, he tapped the best design firm for the job: Studio Tack. Together, they transformed this sleepy motel into a detail-oriented destination to satisfy the most discerning travelers.

The lobby is complete with board games, a wood-burning stove, an espresso bar (yes, with pastries), and a mercantile shop filled with mountain must-haves: wool socks, windbreakers, and the like.

The rooms were also imagined with high-end details in mind. A brass Waterworks rain shower and bath products from C.O. Bigelow will make you want to linger while custom Woolrich blankets will make sure to keep you snug.

Glorietta, the hotel's reimagined trattoria, serves up comfort food staples: gnocchi with brown butter, fried berry pies, and a selection of cocktails to boot. The cozy bistro-style space attracts locals and travelers alike.

But it's through the new Explorer's Program that the Anvil truly shines. Packages include snowmobile tours of Yellowstone's Old Faithful or Togwotee High Mountain; dog sled tours to Granite Hot Springs; or snowshoe tours and yoga (each complete with spiked hot cocoa and Moon Juice Power Dust). You may never want to leave.
