Australian design style is very easy to identify with. The casual Aussie approach to living translates to spaces that are both eclectic and simple. One of Australia's newest design stores, Scout House, located in St. Kilda (just outside Melbourne), sums up the style perfectly. Even if you can't shop the brick and mortar, the space is an endless supply of inspiration. "Our collection is ever changing, always about carefully curating utilitarian, timeless, functional products for daily living," says Orlando Mesiti, Scout House's proprietor. The store looks to sell "products that won't just last for one year but for many years or a lifetime." The products include Australian, American and European brands such as Pony Rider, Modernica, Herschell, Opinel Knives, and Falcon Enamelware. "I feel like our voice is evolving and only now coming into its own -- classic rather than retro, vintage rather than industrial," says Orlando. It's a voice worth hearing, and a store worth seeing, for pretty soon we'll all be after the Australian look.
