The book that changed my life…  The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. Loved it as a kid. Love it even more now. The most amazing meal I've ever had… New York City, 2001. My boyfriend at the time and I were walking around Tribeca and stumbled into David Bouley’s restaurant, Danube. I was a broke editorial assistant. Nick worked at the mayor’s office and didn’t make much more than me. Yet we took one look at the tasting menu, glanced at the impossibly romantic dining room, and snagged a table. What followed was a truly amazing meal, made even more amazing by the fact that it felt like such a treat.  The morning and nighttime routines I swear by...   I live in the mountains, which means my a.m. and p.m. routines include hydrating, hydrating, and more hydrating. I’m currently hooked on Luzern Laboratories Serum Absolut Rehydrate Moisture Enhancing Serum and Force de Vie Creme Intensive. I also never underestimate the power of lighting a few white candles (NEST Holiday scent is my fave year-round) and making a pot of tea (I’m hooked on Boulder, Colo.-based Pekoe Sip House’s Pekoe Revival).    The best décor hack I've learned…  Mixing patterns, not making everything so matchy-matchy, and texture. These make everything look better. My interior stylist spirit animal is…  Joanna Gaines. My sister turned me on to the show Fixer Upper and I have to admit, I’m officially hooked.  This season, my go-to cocktail order is…  A classic margarita, with rocks and salt.  The first lesson I learned as an Adult with a capital A...   Credit card debt is easy to rack up — and tough to climb out of. At my worst, I hit about $20K on a couple cards. I got out of it thanks to an ideal combo of a new job, big pay bump, and living with a friend whose father owned the house and wouldn’t cash my rent checks. And I’ve never carried a credit card balance since. But I still wonder how much beefier my retirement portfolio would be if I’d invested that 20 grand a decade ago. In some debt and want to start taking steps to get out of it? Start here.
