From breads and splits to Fosters and cream pies, the list of banana-centric desserts is a long and mighty one. And why wouldn’t it be? The impossibly sweet miracle fruit is low in calories and rich in potassium, which means it helps lower blood pressure levels. It’s no wonder chefs both professional and amateur have found a myriad of ways to reinvent the banana wheel time and time again.
Well, just when we thought the superfruit couldn’t be reappropriated to satisfy our sweet tooth any further, a new recipe from Well + Good went ahead and proved us totally wrong. May we introduce banana sushi, a whimsical dessert hybrid form health fitness specialist Stacy Kennedy, who co-founded the Wellness Guides. Despite the head-scratching name, this particular dessert forgoes sushi mainstays like raw fish, rice, pickled ginger, and wasabi for a roster of ingredients far more suitable for a sweet after-meal treat.
Simply top the bananas with sunflower seeds, chocolate chips, almond butter, and chia. Once done, slice the bananas the same way you would a sushi roll, and just like that, your dessert if officially ready for Instagram. Just don’t forget the chopsticks.
