Behr Paint just announced their selection for the 2021 Color of the Year, which is a shade that provides something we could all use this year—comfort. Canyon Dusk, an earthy terracotta, is a nature-inspired color choice meant to embrace the security and stability that hopefully is coming in 2021.

“There is something so reassuring about dusk, the moment just after sunset, which brings the promise of a new day,” Erika Woelfel, the vice president of color and creative services at Behr, says. “The illuminating, free-spirited Canyon Dusk is a color that can be found in a variety of places, from an awe-inspiring desert landscape to the color of sunbaked clay. Wherever it is found, we share a collective need for these moments of comfort and inspiration in the days ahead.”

We couldn’t agree more. Utilizing this shade around your home is sure to create an atmosphere of warmth, as the tawny shade is reminiscent of clay-colored earth and a raw, grounded connection to the land. With this in mind, Behr hopes the shade inspires solid footing for respective journeys ahead.

As a year without much balance or light, many are ready to move beyond 2020 and embrace the hope of the year to come—and Behr hoped to contribute to this sentiment with their color choice.

A neutral-adjacent shade, Canyon Dusk spans several design styles and is a practical choice in any interior or exterior. The color complements pastels, jewel tones, and other neutrals, which makes it a great choice for any style from modern to traditional. It also pairs well with other colors from the Behr 2021 Color Trends selections, like Smoky White or Broadway, a dusty black.

“From seasoned DIYers to first-time painters, it’s been inspiring to see people really embracing opportunities to enhance their spaces during a time when we are all in our homes more than ever before,” Jodi Allen, the global chief marketing officer for Behr, says. “Whether creating an unexpected accent wall or a simple color change, paint can make a huge visual impact, and it’s one of the most affordable and straightforward DIY projects to tackle.”
