As the Fourth of July has come and gone, we’ve stopped updating this post with sales and can’t promise the ones below are still available. Check back next year for updated deals.
Fourth of July is almost here! And if you plan to spend your whole Independence Day watching the fireworks and BBQing, you could be missing out on some serious savings. Fourth of July sales offer big discounts across a huge range of items—and you might be surprised to learn how many of your favorite retailers are participating this year. Whether you're looking for decor staples or bedding must-haves—there's a sale this holiday weekend with your name on it.
According to Courtney Sempliner, interior designer and founder of Courtney Sempliner Designs, there’s a reason why these summer sales are so great: “It’s seasonally time for retailers to unload pieces like outdoor furniture, entertaining items, and decor.” While “July Fourth is late enough in the summer season [that the demand] is lessening,” Sempliner added that there’s still enough warm weather left “to incentivize customers to add to their summer living essentials,” especially if the prices are low enough.
What Is the Fourth of July & Why Are There Sales?
The Fourth of July (also known as Independence Day) celebrates the Continental Congress's passage of the Declaration of Independence, which announced that American colonies would be free from British rule. Much like Presidents’ Day and Memorial Day, the Fourth of July is a time for patriotism and appreciation—and loads of retailers also celebrate by slashing prices.
When Do Most Fourth of July Sales Start?
You’ll definitely see discounts on Sunday, July 4, 2021, but some sites get a big head start. Overstock, for example, has been taking off up to 70 percent since June 15, and they’ll continue the savings until July 5. At the very least, you can expect most sales to start a few days in advance.
What Is Usually on Sale for Fourth of July?
The Fourth of July often signals the unofficial celebration of summer. As a result, “It’s a smart time to stock up on essentials like bed linens, towels, kitchen gear, and anything else you may have had your eye on for a while,” Sempliner said. If “your space is due for a refresh,” you should scout out “timeless and elevated” pieces that’ll still be on-trend come next year.
Lucy Penfield, Design Principal of Lucy Interior Design, has another great point: “Retailers are clearing shelves for back-to-school,” and “peak summer means we have our gardens planted and we are ready to celebrate! We’re in the heat of the season so get it while it’s hot, literally speaking!”
In other words, if you’re willing to take a quick break from the grilled hot dogs, sunshine, and sparklers, you could find some awesome deals on furniture, housewares, outdoor decor, and health products, all of which are well-suited for summer.

Starting June 30, Rugs.com will be offering up to 70 percent off, plus free shipping and returns. In the meantime, shop their clearance selection, like this round outdoor rug. It’s made from weatherproof polypropylene, but its low pile is enough to bring comfort to your porch, patio, or deck. Get it in your choice of three bright colors.
Urban Outfitters is known for its Boho-inspired, on-trend selection, and this planter is no exception. The iron pot is great for herbs, larger succulents, and house plants, while the mango-wood pillar legs prevent damage to your floor. What a gorgeous way to bring the outdoors in. Right now, take 40 percent off sale items.

It’s also durable and breathable, and you can personalize your firmness level. No wonder it has a 4.9-star rating from over 2,000 reviewers.
If you didn’t get a chance to start your spring cleaning, summer cleaning is a thing, too. Transform your pantry with these fan-favorite food storage containers from OXO, which stack on top of each other and hold a variety of different ingredients. They’re BPA-free and the lid has a button that activates an airtight seal. Starting June 28, you can save an additional 20 percent off with code FOURTH.
Coop Home Goods
Coop Home Goods' cult-favorite adjustable pillow will be 10 percent off. Join thousands of sound sleepers when you grab The Original Pillow from Coop Home Goods. It’s filled with cross-cut memory foam, which you can add or remove to personalize the loft, firmness, and support levels. It’s also washable, breathable, and hypoallergenic.
Brooklyn Bedding’s site-wide sale started on June 23, and now you can save 25 percent on everything with code INDEPENDENCE25. That includes mattresses, pillows, foundations, and adjustable bases, but it also includes this weighted blanket. It offers deep-touch support with 15 or 20 pounds of soothing weight, but don’t worry—it’s still cooling; one side of the reversible duvet is made from a crisp, tranquil material that’s ideal for hot weather.
Hot sleepers rejoice! The TEMPUR-breeze is $500 off. This revolutionary mattress stays cool (8 degrees cooler than the average mattress, to be exact) all night long. It uses a combination of chilling fibers, phase-change materials, and breathable comfort layers, but you don’t have to understand the science to know that reviewers have called it the “best bed you’ll ever buy.”
For the Fourth of July, Proclamation Goods is offering $50 off its award-winning stainless-steel Proclamation Duo. (You’ll also get a free triangle dinner bell with your purchase.) The set comes with a pot and a skillet, both of which are non-toxic and designed to last a lifetime. Use the included lid to cover either one or combine the two to create a modern Dutch oven.
Joss & Main
Technically, Joss & Main’s current sale is celebrating the retailer’s 10-year anniversary, but it overlaps with the Fourth of July, which means you get to save on furniture and decor. The Fairlop recessed arm sofa is a fresh summer favorite thanks to its breathable down fill and linen-like upholstery. Its solid wood base brings a natural but modern feel to any living area.
