You heard it here first: cocktails in a can are the next big thing in the beverage world.
Companies have been putting alcoholic drinks in cans for decades, particularly in New Zealand, Australia, and the United Kingdom—but it hasn't particularly caught on in the United States until recently, notes Laura Johnson, the founder and CEO of You & Yours Distilling Co. “Prior to that, I think there was a bit of a stigma around cans, a perceived notion among consumers they were a lower quality alternative to bartender-made cocktails," she notes. "Thanks to some great beverage producers and amazing new products, all that has now changed.”
“When a canned cocktail is thoughtfully crafted, I’d wager it closely mimics what a bartender worth their salt could serve up in person,” adds Luke McKinley, the marketing director for Novo Fogo Organic Cachaça.
With that said, here are the best cocktails in a can to try this weekend—or any.
Onda Sparkling Tequila
Onda offers sparkling tequila in two flavors: lime and grapefruit. “My fellow co-founders and I found many of our friends were drinking hard seltzers made with mystery alcohol and cheap ingredients, and we wanted a product that was meant for a healthier lifestyle,” says Noah Gray, the co-founder and CEO of Onda. “Our beverages are made with real fruit juice, and each serving is only 100 calories.”
Best seller: Double Trouble (5% ABV, 100 calories, 0g sugar, 0g carbs). “Sales of our 16-pack, including eight cans each of the sparkling tequila in lime and grapefruit flavors, have taken off, since people like having options to choose from,” Gray notes. “Crafted with Blanco tequila from Jalisco, Mexico, our lime tastes like a classic margarita and our grapefruit favors a Paloma.”
Usual Spritz Canned Wine
Usual offers one canned wine option, Usual Spritz. “We’re known for creating beverages from a small lot, sustainably farmed vineyards, and offer high-quality and clean ingredients,” says Matt Dukes, the CEO and co-founder of Usual Wines.
Best Seller: Usual Spritz (8.5% ABV, 83 calories, 3g sugar, 4.75g carbs). “We wanted to create something that is ‘sessionable’—low in alcohol so it’s drinkable over an extended period of time—without sacrificing taste or experience,” Dukes notes. “In tune with the rest of our wines, it’s made with clean, simple ingredients, like fresh squeezed guava juice, and no added sugar or sulfites.”
You & Yours Distilling Co. Tangerine Vodka Soda
You & Yours Distilling Co. offers eight different vodka-and gin-based cocktails. “We focus on the quality of the alcohol source and the flavor profile to make our beverages stand out,” Johnson says.
Best seller: Tangerine Vodka Soda (7.5% ABV, 150 calories, 4g sugar, 5g carbs). “It has juicy, unctuous notes of tangerine, kumquat, clementine and orange blossom in addition to our 100% grape-based Y&Y Vodka, which has a subtle floral quality that compliments the citrus,” Johnson notes.
Two Chicks Cocktails Sparkling Vodka Fizz
Two Chicks Cocktails offers six all-natural, premium sparkling spirit cocktails including Sparkling Margarita, Vodka Fizz, Paloma, Vodka CuTea, Sparkling New Fashioned, and Apple Gimlet. “Our beverages are gluten-free and vegan-friendly,” says Linda Cash, the CEO of Two Chicks Cocktails. “They taste like a bartender made them right in front of you.”

Cupcake Vineyards Canned Sauvignon Blanc
Cupcake Vineyards offers wine in three varieties, including Sauvignon Blanc, rosé, and sparkling rosé. “Our rosé comes from vineyards along the California coast and has notes of watermelon and strawberry, the sparkling rosé comes from northeastern Italy and has refreshing raspberry and floral notes, and the Sauvignon Blanc comes from New Zealand with notes of lemon and nectarine,” shares Jessica Tomei, winemaker at Cupcake Vineyards.
Best seller: Sauvignon Blanc (13% ABV, 111 calories, 3g carbs). “The cool growing season in New Zealand allows our grapes to mature slowly and gain character and complexity,” Tomei says. “This top seller has notes of lemon, nectarine, and key lime, and is a fan-favorite for being so refreshing.”
Volley Sharp Grapefruit Tequila Seltzer
Volley offers a tequila seltzer made with three ingredients—100% blue agave tequila, sparkling water and organic juice, and is available in four flavors, including Spicy Ginger, Zesty Lime, Sharp Grapefruit and Tropical Mango. “We were tired of ‘natural flavors’ which smelled like Jolly Ranchers,” says Camila Soriano, the co-founder of Volley. “So we combined the highest quality tequila with sparkling water and organic juice—not from concentrate—for the freshest drink possible.”
Best seller: Sharp Grapefruit (5.25% ABV, 100 calories, 0g sugar, 1g carbs). “The taste of a real grapefruit is hard to replicate, but the ruby red grapefruit we source from Texas has the perfect balance of sweet and bitterness,” Soriano notes. “As soon as you flip open the can, you know this is the real deal, like the fresh grapefruit you enjoy in the morning.”
Tip Top Proper Cocktails Old Fashioned

The Finnish Long Drink Traditional Long Drink
The Finnish Long Drink offers sparkling citrus sodas with liquor in four flavors—traditional, zero, strong, and cranberry. “Though technically made of gin, grapefruit, and juniper berries, nobody guesses it has gin in it,” notes Evan Burns, the founder and CEO of The Finnish Long Drink. Though the Long Drink Company brand was created in the U.S. in 2018, the long drink has been around for almost 70 years in Finland—the first long drinks were created for the 1952 Summer Olympics as a way to provide a beverage to spectators.
Best seller: Traditional Long Drink (5.5% ABV, 180 calories, 18g sugar, 18g carbs) “Traditional is the first drink we produced and this light, refreshing beverage is what we are most known for,” says Burns. “Most Americans say it tastes like a boozy Fresca and doesn’t leave them feeling bloated like after drinking malts.”
Plain Spoke Cocktail Company Moscow Mule
Plain Spoke Cocktail Company offers four spirit-based cocktails, including a Moscow Mule, Brandy Old Fashioned, Bourbon Smash, and a wine-based cocktail called Resting Spritz Face, which comes in a rosé and aperitif. “I was an award-winning craft cocktail bartender before developing the brand,” says Tom Dufek, the co-founder of Plain Spoke Cocktail Company. “And like top bartenders, we only use distilled spirits and 100% lime and lemon juice instead of acids or oils in our cocktails.”
Best seller: The Moscow Mule (10% ABV). “It was the first drink in our line and is made with organic ginger and pure cane sugar,” Dufek notes. “It’s perfectly balanced with a refreshing effervescence.”
