The couch is easy to assemble and even lets you choose which side of the couch the chaise goes on. Plus, it’s easy to clean—removable cushions can be flipped and even dry-cleaned as necessary. The polyester velvet, which is offered in three colors, also stands up to spills and scratches from pets beautifully.

Best Pet-Friendly: Allform 3-Seat Sofa with Chaise
Size: 90 x 34 inches | Material: Wood frame, performance fabric or leather | Comfort: Multiple colors available
While we put our couches through a lot, that’s often nothing compared to our furry companions. Cats and dogs can scratch, shed, and otherwise wreak havoc on our upholstered furniture. The secret is to look for performance fabrics that can stand up to tough moments and even the occasional spill or, heaven forbid, bathroom accident.
The 3-Seat Sofa with Chaise is offered in a variety of colors and leg finishes, plus the option to add matching pillows for an additional cost. Though the sofa is a bit of an investment, the couch's upholstery makes it totally worth it.
All fabric that AllForm offers is treated to resist stains and spills as well as pilling. It’s also durable— it has a double rub score of 55,000 (that’s 55,000 rubs back and forth!), over three times higher than the industry standard for durability. Translation: Next time Fido starts burrowing, you don’t have to panic.

Best Deep: Arhaus Kipton Two Piece Sectional with Chaise
Size: Multiple sizes available | Material: Hardwood frame, various fabric upholstery options | Color: Multiple colors available
For true relaxation, you can't go wrong with a deep-style couch. Take Arhaus's Kipton Two Piece Sectional with Chaise, for example, which has an oversized style you'll happily sink into during your next movie night.
The couch is crafted with a durable wood frame and features a no-sag system beneath each foam cushion, so they won't lose shape while you lounge. The best part? Each sectional component is also held together by connectors, meaning they won't shift once you get comfortable.
"Consider the material of the frame, as this is a key indicator of how durable it will be. Hardwood is a safe option as it tends to hold up to the test of time. Be sure to read the fine print when shopping for a sofa–you’ll want to avoid materials that are less durable such as particleboard and even metal–as these won’t be nearly as solid as a great hardwood option," Karina Lameraner, senior creative stylist at Modsy.

What to Look For in a Couch
Couches are offered in a variety of fabrics, from leather to velvet and beyond. The best material for your couch is dependant on your lifestyle. If you live in a home with pets and/or small children, performance fabrics or options that are stain- and scratch-resistant are better options than materials like leather, which will show all the wear and tear.
"Be wary of tweed, as it is tougher to remove animal hair–and can also be a prime victim of cat-clawing. For most pet-friendly homes, fabrics with a tight weave are the way to go. Opt for a performance fabric in a tight weave, such as twill. For kid-friendly spaces, we recommend choosing a performance fabric that will be durable, easy to clean, and water-resistant," Lameraner said.
Before purchasing a couch, be sure to measure your space and determine what size will fit. If you're working with an apartment or a smaller room in your home, loveseats or modular designs are great options—each will take up a smaller blueprint in your home and leave you room for other furniture.
Couches serve tons of purposes, from acting as a decorative piece to your go-to lounge spot in your home. However, some have additional features that are worth considering while you shop. For example, if you often have guests stay over a sleeper sofa would make a great addition to your space. And, if your couch is bound to get tons of use, designs with zippered cushion overs that are easy to remove and clean might be worth a second look.
