True to form, we're turning to Pinterest to find our go-to comfort food recipe of the season, and this crockpot chicken and dumplings recipe from Spend With Pennies definitely fits the bill.

"Chicken and dumplings are probably the ultimate comfort food," writes creator Holly on her blog. Her recipe calls for "tender, juicy shredded chicken and soft dumplings in a rich, creamy brothy gravy." What's more is that it takes no more than five minutes to prep. Crockpot Chicken and Dumplings

Ingredients:

Large onion, diced
Cream of celery soup
Cream of chicken soup
Fresh parsley
Poultry seasoning
Black pepper to taste
Skinless, boneless chicken breasts
Low-sodium chicken broth
Frozen vegetables or peas and carrots, defrosted
Refrigerated biscuits (buttermilk, country, or homestyle)

Directions:

Add onion to the crockpot and top with chicken breasts.

In a small bowl, combine cream of celery soup, cream of chicken soup, parsley, poultry seasoning, and pepper. Spread over chicken breasts. Top with chicken broth and cook on high for five hours.

Approximately one hour before serving (after four hours of cooking time), roll each biscuit thin and flat. Cut into four strips. Add vegetables to the slow cooker and stir. Add biscuit strips on top. Replace lid as quickly as possible.
