This Energy Practitioner's Approach to Love Might Change Your Life

Are you emotionally open to finding true love and intimacy? Or is your heart turned off (or dialed down) when attracting deep connections into your life? And we're not just talking about "the one" here either (although that's always welcome).

We're also referring to the unconditional love that comes from genuine friendships and, of course, the affection you have for yourself because it's like Margaret Paul of Mind Body Green put it, "you can’t love someone unless you love yourself. The hard truth is this: You cannot give to others purely if you’ve abandoned your own heart."

So what's the culprit? How are we (often unknowingly) pushing the prospect of love away from us? According to Colleen McCann, fashion stylist turned shamanic energy medicine practitioner and founder of Style Rituals, in order to manifest love, we need to clear ourselves of any negative emotions and thinking that could be interrupting our energy flow first. How? Through simple 10-minute (or less) daily rituals using the power of crystals. Yes, crystals.

Mother Nature's semi-precious stones bring more to your life (and home) than just natural sparkle. McCann says they can alter your energy levels, ward off negative vibes, and open up your heart, body, and soul to new relationships and ultimately, love.

So, in honor of Valentine's Day, we asked McCann to share her top eight crystals for attracting, embracing, and harnessing love into your life. In this exclusive guide, she explains what each stone does along with a daily mantra you should chant while holding the stone to let all the love in and all the bad vibes out.

MYDOMAINE: Why are crystals so powerful in attracting love and positive elements into our lives?

COLLEEN MCCANN: Crystals, in general, are powerful tools for attracting what we want to call into our lives. Why? Crystals have the ability to store, transmit, and transform energy. Scientifically, crystals are the most orderly structure that exists in nature, meaning they have the lowest amount of entropy (a measurement of disorder). Crystals are structured in such a way that they respond to the inputs of all different energies around them, so they oscillate, emitting specific vibratory frequencies.

The way they are balanced, the frequencies they emit, and their ability to store massive amounts of information make crystals essential to modern technologies: computers, TVs, cell phones, satellites, etc. This is where science and mysticism intersect. Crystals are millions of years old and were formed during the earliest part of the earth’s formation. I think of crystals as a timeless database of knowledge, because they retain all the information they've ever been exposed to.

Crystals absorb information—whether a severe weather pattern or the experience of an ancient ceremony—and pass it to anyone that comes into contact with them. Each crystal vibrates and emits different energies. When one wants to call love into their life you will generally work with a pink or a green stone because these are the colors that resonate and work with the Heart Chakra.

MD: How many times should we repeat the mantra for each stone? What should we do with it?

CM: This is a personal preference, skill level, and ultimately what you have time for in your schedule. Let this practice work for you. If you only have time to say it once a day then just make sure that one time counts. Take a few minutes of silence and say your mantra with sincerity, focus, and the meaning coming from your heart. You can also stare at yourself in the mirror when reciting. If the best you can do is hold your crystal while in traffic or sitting on the subway then that is awesome too. No pressure!

You may also shut your eyes, take a few deep grounding breaths while you say your mantra, and visualize what the mantra means in your life. In more advanced practice, I like to advise my clients to do a standard 108 count repeat on the mantra just like if you were working with mala beads. In fact, if you want to be exact you can hold your mala in the right hand to keep count. Since we "call energy in" through the left side of our bodies (which is also The Divine Feminine Side of the body) we want to hold the crystal in the hand that we want to "call-in" that particular energy to (The Left Hand).

We send out energy through the right side of our bodies, The Divine Masculine Side. For example, if you are working with an idea of having something come to you, such as bringing in love, then you hold the crystal in your left hand. If you are working with an idea of sending love to another, then you hold the crystal in your right hand.
