What to Look for in a Gift for Your Best Friend
Type of Occasion
Buying the right gift for your best friend depends on what exactly you're celebrating. Is it a birthday or holiday? Choose something more personal, like a framed photo of the two of you. Is it a major life event or milestone? Consider splurging a bit more on something that'll really commemorate the occasion, like fancy wine glasses to celebrate a new home. Do you want to send a "just because" gift? Go for something small yet meaningful, like a bouquet of dried flowers or a cozy candle.
Above all, choose a gift that your pal will actually get some use out of. Avoid "gag" gifts that are funny but not actually useful, and instead select something thoughtful that shows how much you know your friend. (Unless they're a huge fan of gag gifts!) Keep your friend's personality in mind, and, especially if it's a big occasion, choose something that you wouldn't necessarily buy for just anyone.
You don't need to spend a lot of money to find the perfect gift, and you definitely should never spend more than you can afford. Plan to spend around $20-$25 for birthdays and holidays, and budget a bit more (between $50-$100 depending on the relationship) for more monumental occasions like weddings, new jobs, and big moves.
