It's no secret certain personalities are better suited for certain jobs. It's natural to gravitate toward a position that puts your strengths to use, as that is both where you'll excel and be most satisfied. But have you ever thought to consider that what you pursue and where you succeed professionally may come down to science?
Some of the largest and most competitive companies in America rely on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) personality test to assess which individuals will be the strongest performers in specific positions. A few years ago, it was found that a whopping 80% of Fortune 500 companies use the test. By asking a series of questions gauging reasoning and preference for behavior, the MBTI test determines which of 16 personality types an individual belongs to measured against four criteria.
So can you predict the specific occupations individuals will gravitate toward and excel in based on their personality type? To answer this question, Business Insider spoke with Paul Tieger, one of the authors of Do What You Are: Discover the Perfect Career for You Through the Secrets of Personality Type, a personality guide based on the MBTI test that has sold more than a million copies. Using his knowledge of the MBTI model, Tieger helped to create a list of the top five careers for each of the 16 personality types. For example, the most common type, ISFJs, do well as dentists and elementary school teachers. Are you an ESTP? You'll thrive in a high-stakes job like a detective or a banker.
If you haven't taken the test already, go ahead and take it now, then head over to Business Insider to read the full list of jobs best suited for your personality. Let us know in the comments whether you agree with the findings!
