With so many headlines and scandals reminding us how far women still have to go in order to achieve equality, we could all use a pick-me-up to remember how powerful we can be. Who better to lift our spirits than Beyoncé and a troop of inspiring young girls? Harper's Bazaar reports that the singer recently released a new video for her song "Freedom," and it's everything the world needs to see right now.
"Today is #DayoftheGirl. Girls around the world are fighting for their freedom every day," Beyoncé wrote in a Facebook post upon the video's release in honor of the International Day of the Girl. The song is from the pop icon's legendary visual album, Lemonade.
The video features young girls from around the world dancing and lip-syncing to Beyoncé's powerful track. Statistics on violence against girls and calls for freedom are revealed throughout the video, bringing deeper meaning and purpose to the project, which was done in partnership with Chime for Change and The Global Goals. These organizations focus on raising funds and awareness for women and girls and ending extreme poverty, inequality, and climate change.
This isn't the first time Beyoncé has used her music to promote change or to help a worthy cause. She recently released a remix of "Mi Gente" to raise money for hurricane victims in Mexico, Puerto Rico, and the Caribbean.
