Helen Fielding first introduced the world to the lovable yet neurotic singleton Bridget Jones in 1996. The popularity of her book, Bridget Jones’s Diary, resulted in two more books and two movies where Renée Zellweger portrayed the hysterical heroine. Now, People is reporting that a third film, Bridget Jones’s Baby, will begin shooting in the U.K. on October 2. Zellweger will return as Bridget, and Colin Firth will reprise his role as the dashing Mark Darcy. Patrick Dempsey is also joining the cast, and director Sharon Maguire, who helmed the original 2001 movie, will be calling the shots behind the scenes. According to People, the film “will fill the gap between Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason and Fielding's 2013 book, Mad About the Boy.” The movie will find Bridget unexpectedly pregnant with the identity of the father unknown. As a fan of the series, I’m excited for this third installment, and I hope it lives up to the hype.
Catch up on Bridget Jones by reading Fielding’s latest book, Mad About the Boy, which chronicles Bridget’s love affair with a younger man.
