Celebrities Take to Instagram to Celebrate the Life of Bowie
The sad passing of the inimitable songwriter David Bowie has triggered an outpouring of emotion on social media across the world. Bowie died Sunday from cancer, just two days after his 69th birthday. The rock icon led the androgyny charge during the glam-rock era of the early 1970s and ushered in the disco soul sound with songs such as "Changes" and "Young Americans," which he co-wrote with John Lennon. Bowie was a true chameleon, evolving, adapting, and changing his personal and musical style with each era in order to contribute to the culture and time he was living in. “I suppose for me as an artist, it wasn’t always just about expressing my work; I really wanted, more than anything else, to contribute in some way to the culture I was living in," he told GQ in 2002. Bowie released his final album, Blackstar, on his birthday, and producer Tony Visconti said Bowie made the record as a "parting gift for us." Celebrities around the world have honored Bowie's life and amazing contributions to music, art, and culture on Instagram today. Scroll down to read some of their heartfelt messages.
