The cost of travel is a major factor in planning any trip, especially when it comes to navigating the varied cities of Europe. Luckily, if you know where to go, you can have the vacation of a lifetime while staying within a budget. According to the 2018 City Costs Barometer from Post Office Travel Money, Eastern Europe is home to some of the most affordable (and gorgeous) cities on the continent. To get the most bang for your buck, you'll want to visit Kraków, Poland, which has taken the top spot as the most affordable European city for a weekend getaway.

A weekend spent in this city will cost about $235, according to the report.

These findings are based on a survey of 36 European cities. Researchers looked into a variety of cost factors to discover which city is financially best for a short vacation this spring. They compared the cost of alcohol, dinner for two, a two-night stay in a hotel, popular attractions, and local travel to determine just where a pair of budget-savvy travelers should visit.

Kraków, Poland, and six other Eastern European capitals took spots in the top seven most affordable cities, making a strong case for a trip to the eastern part of the continent. However, Athens, Lisbon, and Lille, located in Western Europe, also managed to crack the top 10. Here are 10 of the most affordable spots to weekend in Europe (and roughly how much you can expect to budget for each one).

1. Kraków, Poland: $235
2. Vilnius, Lithuania: $236
3. Riga, Latvia: $245
4. Warsaw, Poland: $257
5. Budapest, Hungary: $261
6. Moscow, Russia: $284
7. Prague, Czech Republic: $284
