At this point, we'd consider ourselves masters of snagging discount airfare. From the website with the best flight deals to the handiest travel apps out there, we've all but gamified the art of the flight hunt. But we can now add this timing tip from CheapAir.com's recent report to our growing list of travel hacks. The booking site analyzed hundreds of thousands of summer airfares to find the cheapest flights from June through September, landing on June 6 as the cheapest travel day.
"Summer 2017 is shaping up to be slightly less expensive on average than what we saw in airfare pricing last year at this time," CheapAir CEO Jeff Klee told Condé Nast Traveler. "[It] is a nice change for consumers accustomed to ever-increasing prices. The data clearly shows the best value for summer travel can be found the first half of June." By contrast, Sunday, July 9 is the most expensive travel day of the summer.
What's more, flying on Tuesdays and Wednesday will save you around $60 as compared to traveling on a Sunday. "If your heart is set on weekend flights, look later in the summer when some destinations are still showing low airfares," added Klee. "You can also choose Saturday over Sunday to save, which is often the more affordable day to fly on a weekend."
