While we'd love to live the first-class life, our wallets don't exactly allow for the most extravagant trips to the world's top destinations. This is a dilemma the team at Insider knows all too well—the publication worked with travel search engine Kayak to identify the cheapest travel destinations for 2018.
To compile their list, they analyzed Kayak's 100 most-searched flight destinations between October 25, 2016, and October 24, 2017, to identify the 10 destinations with the lowest overall median trip cost. Taking into account the price of the flight and a three-night hotel stay, they concluded that Guadalajara, Mexico, is the number one spot for 2018. Calgary, Canada; Orlando, Florida; Raleigh, North Carolina; and Denver, Colorado, claimed spots two through five.
The search engine recommends visiting Guadalajara, an inland city located in the state of Jalisco, in May of 2018 for the cheapest possible fares. You can snag a roundtrip flight for as little as $282 and a hotel room for just $62 a night if you book sometime this month.
