Martha Stewart Living, and more, San Francisco-based Chloe Redmond Warner, co-founder and principal of
Redmond Aldrich Design, has earned her keep among the design and lifestyle glossies we love thanks to her fresh and "spiffy traditional" aesthetic. It's no wonder her work is made for the page: the designer is a former editor of
Lucky Magazine.
A graduate of the architecture program at Harvard's prestigious Graduate School of Design, Warner tells us that once she realized the most artistic parts of a home are the interiors, "shazam, an interior designer was born." Exposed from a young age to rooms designed by design greats like Sister Parish and Albert Hadley, Warner is "inspired by the colors and comforts of classic design," but enjoys updating the aesthetic to suit modern life (as seen in this
Hillsborough House and
Dolores Penthouse).
Swan chairs, Chinoiserie panels, Sciolari fixtures, hand-blocked floral fabric, flowering branches, ferns, map lights, old art in new rooms, new art in old rooms.
Her fearless yet sensible approach to color, her flawless mixes of pattern, and her livable yet refined spaces.
A modern house: "It's so pure I was almost afraid of it at first, but I'm absolutely loving making it a little softer." A traditional house: "It's going to have so many jaw-dropping moments, when it's done I might die." Also: "A beautiful weird proposal for a hotel that has been going on so long I might be retired by the time construction starts."
Warner tells us she "fancies" herself an artist and draws and paints as often as she can. "My favorite thing is when I nominate myself to fill a canvas for a client, and I have an excuse to wear flannel to the office."
