Arguably the most iconic film of the '90s, Clueless made the world fall in love with a group of privileged high schoolers as they tackled near-death shopping trips, driving tests, partying in the Valley, and finding love. Now the movie that continues to make a strong case for plaid skirt suits is trading in Los Angeles for New York City, where it's set to become an off-Broadway musical.
The news was announced by The New Group Off-Broadway theater company, which added Clueless, The Musical to its 2018-2019 roster. Amy Heckerling, the film's screenwriter and director will write the script, so you can be sure this new production will do the original justice. "With her singular voice, she gives us a score that reimagines '90s hits into ingenious parodies and yearning monologues for her lovesick characters," reads a description of the play from The New Group.
Cross your fingers for a "Rollin' With My Homies," reprise and more '90s classics to take you back to a simpler time full of fuzzy pink pens and arguing your way from a C+ to an A- before a quick trip to the mall. The musical is set to open at Pershing Square Signature Center this November and will run through December. We haven't seen it yet, but we can already see ourselves giving it two very enthusiastic thumbs up.
