We can barely contain our excitement for the season-four premiere of Downton Abbey on Jan. 5, but now our anticipation is two-fold: Heritage Lace has just announced that it will debut a collection of home décor and textiles inspired by the award-winning series. Capturing the color and texture of fine laces, sheers, linens, velvets, burlaps, and embroideries of Highclere Castle, the collection will be aligned with modern tastes and influenced "by the rich cast of characters -- both upstairs and down," says co-CEO Daniel De Cook.
Pieces inspired by upstairs characters like Lady Mary, Dowager Countess of Grantham, and Lady Cora will focus on fine textiles, ladies accessories, and linens, while downstairs characters like Mrs. Hughes and Mrs Patmore will inspire more practical items, such as kitchen towels, placemats, and fabric baskets. We can also see icons like the Abbey, the Union Jack and the Downton family crest making it onto the production line. The line will be available for purchase online on Feb. 1 and in stores in early March. We've seen a fair share of television-inspired décor that's nothing more than kitsch, but given that the sets of Downton Abbey are so elegant and grand, we think there's a lot of opportunity here to create a chic collection we'll really be coveting. We just hope they'll add a framed portrait of Matthew Crawley to the mix.
