If you're a first-time mom, there are probably a million questions running through your head all the time as you navigate what's best for your baby. While there are plenty of things to worry about, wondering which products to purchase for your little one shouldn't be one of them.
In a bid to make your life easier, we tapped three moms who have already gone through parenting for the first time to glean some of their wisdom: Barret Prendergast is the founder of L.A.-based boutique Valleybrink Road and has two little ones at home who have taught her a lot about parenting. Therapist and photographer Chrissy Powers is a mom of three with plenty of knowledge to share. And Stephanie Taylor Jackson, a lifestyle blogger, has learned her fair share of parenting know-how from having two boys.
Ahead find out their personal recommendations for the eco-friendly products they loved as new parents and would still buy today. Not only are they good for the environment and gentle on your baby, but some of them will even save you money in the long run (which is always a bonus). From diapers to baby loungers, here are 16 eco-friendly products for first-time moms.
"This lounger is so soft and comfy for babies," according to Powers. The award-winning product is made with organic fabrics and was created by a mom of seven, so you know it's the real deal—it even has a cover that you can easily remove to wash. "It feels like a gentle hug," the mom of three continues.
"This natural diaper cream does the trick to help gently heal a baby’s red tush without getting greasy," according to Prendergast. It's also free of parabens, synthetic dyes, perfumes, or preservatives and is made with natural extracts and essential oils.
According to Jackson, these wipes made with renewable wood pulp are unscented, dye-free, and are super soft on baby skin. "Considering how many we use in a baby’s lifetime, trying something more natural was worth it," she says.
Short on time? The LG TWINWash™ Bundle with LG SideKick™ and Electric Dryer has eco-friendly time-saving features that’ll save you precious hours when you need to wash those blankets again, not to mention money on your water bill in the long run.
Powers is a fan of the Solly Baby wrap thanks to its soft material—which is also certified eco-friendly and sustainable—and how comfortable it is to wear. "In those newborns days, I put the wrap on in the morning and wore it all day," she says. "Anytime I put my baby in the wrap she would fall asleep and I felt like we were bonding."
"I am obsessed with this baby oil," Prendergast says. "[My son] Paolo loves his before bedtime massage with this oil. It feels luxurious and absorbs easily into the baby's skin," she adds. This eco-friendly product is also paraben-free, sulfate-free, vegan, and contains no artificial preservatives.
"The lavender and vanilla smell is so good and perfect for bath time," according to Jackson. "Plus it is made with natural ingredients that are good for your baby," she says.
Since becoming a mom, Powers has learned that less is more, especially when it comes to baby clothes. That's why she turns to Go Gently Nation for simple, sustainable clothes made from organic materials like recycled paper, water-based inks, and low-impact dyes. "I love the simple designs and silhouettes, and I love the brand's mission statement," Powers says.
"I loved this lightweight belly oil during and after pregnancy and actually would use it all over my body," Prendergast explains. It's a plant-based product created with a blend of nutrient-rich botanical oils.
"I remember buying cheaper, economical store-brand diapers to save money one time, and then when it got 'full' and I saw what was inside the lining of the diapers, I made the decision to always choose the best," Jackson explains. "These are chemical free and plant-based," she continues.
"I got one of these as a gift and was surprised at how much I gravitated toward using it," Powers says. "These blankets and burp cloths are extremely soft and durable and will become something you save and pass down to the next baby," she continues. The organic, natural materials are made to last, which is good for you and the environment.
"[My son] Paolo’s teeth just started to come in and this oil has been helping him so much with the pain," Prendergast says. Not only is the product 100% drug-free, but it also comes in a glass bottle that's free of harmful plastics.
"All baby bottles should be BPA-free, however using glass is naturally eco-friendly," says Jackson. She prefers this brand but there is a slew of options for glass baby bottles.
"Tubby Todd Bath products are my favorite soaps and lotions to put on the baby. I love all the different scents and I know that they are made with all clean products that are gentle on little one's skin," Powers explains. "They even make a line for mamas, which I used during my pregnancy and postpartum," she adds.
"[My kids] Costa and Paolo both love this bubble bath," Prendergast shares. "It makes the best bubbles!"
"Dryer sheets are full of chemicals, so I love these," Jackson tells MyDomaine. "It's a perfect match with the laundry detergent by this brand also."
