If you are anything like us, chances are you spend a decent amount of time perusing Etsy for the latest unique curation of everything from vintage home goods to handmade clothing and accessories. Because everyone from paint brands like Sherwin Williams and Behr to color-obsessed Pantone is designating their hand-picked color of the year for 2020, it is only fair that Etsy gets to make their prediction too. While many other brands opted for shades of blue, however, the purveyor of all things unique and eccentric opted to head in another direction. According to Etsy, the official color of 2020 is chartreuse.
“2020 will be a year for new beginnings and making meaningful change, and chartreuse embodies unconventional thinking and feelings of growth and harmony as we head into this new decade,” Dayna Isom Johnson, Etsy Trend Expert, explains to MyDomaine.
Etsy's choice is also backed up by statistical support. There has been a 12% increase in searches on Etsy for green items and a 55% increase in searches for neon green items in the last three months, compared to the same time in the previous year. In case you aren’t sure where chartreuse falls on the color spectrum, Johnson explains that it lies between yellow and green and can range from bright lime to a more muted avocado tone.

Johnson adds that they are also declaring 2020 as the “year of purpose.” “Shoppers will be thinking more about their actions, including what they’re purchasing—and chartreuse perfectly complements that sentiment by connecting us with nature and encouraging us to make mindful choices,” she says.
So just how should you incorporate chartreuse into your home this year? “Shoppers ready to dive head-first into the chartreuse trend can opt for statement-making pieces like accent chairs, area rugs, or curtains to make a big splash,” she suggests. “Those who aren’t fully ready to commit can start out with a chartreuse accent pillow or throw blanket, and combine it with more neutral colors, like grey or navy, for an eye-catching combo.”
