Facebook Is Making Breakups a Little Easier to Bear

Although breaking up is never easy, it seems like it’s harder today than it ever was before.Years ago, you could break up with a man and never see him again. These days, you’ve got to delete images of him from your phone, unfollow him on Instagram, and change your Facebook relationship status to single.

Luckily, Facebook has just announced new tools that will allow users to manage how they interact with a former partner on the social media site. When you change your relationship status, Facebook will ask if you want to see less of your ex’s name and profile picture without having to unfriend him or block him. Your former partner’s posts won’t show up in your news feed, and their name won’t automatically pop up. You can also limit what your ex sees of you and edit who can see past posts.

Facebook product manager Kelly Winters explains that the new developments are “part of our ongoing effort to create resources for people who may be going through difficult moments in their lives. We hope these tools will help people end relationships on Facebook with greater ease, comfort, and sense of control.”
