On the heels of yesterday's release of the world's most powerful women, Forbes is sharing this year's rankings of the richest self-made women in the U.S. Topping the list, and also the youngest woman on it, is Elizabeth Holmes, founder and CEO of blood-testing company Theranos.
Holmes launched her company after dropping out of Stanford in 2003 following her sophomore year. Motivated by the death of her uncle who died of cancer diagnosed too late, Holmes sought to develop a better, cheaper, and more effective blood test than could be found in commercial labs. Coming in with a net worth of $4.6 billion, Holmes is worth around $1.5 billion more than media-mogul Oprah Winfrey who comes in at number five in the rankings.
