As a businesswoman, actress, and supermodel for Victoria’s Secret, Guess, Revlon, Vogue, and Cosmopolitan, Frederique van der Wal has led somewhat of a nomadic life. After traveling the world and living primarily in New York City for the past 28 years, van der Wal has since found respite in a historic 17th-century canal house in the heart of Amsterdam. “Amsterdam is like stepping back in time,” the Dutch supermodel told Cottages & Gardens. “It’s always home for me, like I’m going back to my roots.” Her heritage is certainly reflected in the décor, with natural wood, fresh-cut flowers, and a muted color palette populating the space. “If it’s too modern, it’s not inviting to me,” she concludes. “A house should be a sanctuary.”
