Get A Life: Gianni Versace

Gianni Versace didn't do understated: whether it was the Italian designer's flashy bondage-gear-inspired sartorial and silver-mesh togas, or his loyal supermodel fan club (Naomi, Cindy, Linda and Christy, of course), everything about his taste skewed over-the-top. His South Beach estate, Casa Casuarina, which was built in 1930 by architect Alden Freeman, is perhaps the ultimate example, and is due to be auctioned off on September 17th. A 10-bedroom, 11-bathroom, 23,000-square-foot behemoth of hand-painted walls and fresco-adorned ceilings, the property is best-known for its aquatic feature: a 54-foot-long pool lined with 24-karat gold. And though the modern-day palace was the scene of the designer's tragic murder in 1997, it also remains a testament to his genius; covered in the icon's trademark Versace Medusa insignia, and styled with his hand-picked ornate furnishings, artwork, and hand-painted murals. In honor of his gold-dipped interiors philosophy, we've put together a curated collection designed to channel his luxe spirit. head
