When it came time for actress Gina Rodriguez to redesign her living room, she wanted it to be comfortable, warm, and welcoming as well as reflect her laid-back, California cool style. So the “Jane the Virgin” star enlisted the help of Decorist designer Sarah Ramirez, whose Southern California online interior design studio, Found + Collected, is known for curating cool, collected spaces with a boho chic vibe.
“As a designer, I mark my success in creating spaces that truly reflect the people who live in them,” Sarah explains to MyDomaine. “Gina is instantly welcoming, fun and energetic—she’s all smiles and really trusted us to create a space that’s perfect for her.”
Starting with warm white walls, her overall design objective was to choose pieces that had an everyday ease but were still visually impactful, like the actress herself. She did this by incorporating a variety of beautiful materials and textures, ranging from concrete to linen—all of which were purchased at Bed Bath & Beyond, using RetailMeNot to quickly get the items at the best prices.
The first piece she selected was a comfortable and chic textured white sectional, “the perfect backdrop for a thoughtfully curated mix of throw pillows,” she says. “They’re not fussy and look great no matter how they’re arranged.”
Then, she added a few low-maintenance pieces—like a concrete and wood outdoor coffee table and an indoor/outdoor concrete side table—so Gina wouldn’t have to worry about stains or spillage.
The rug, from Joanna Gaines’ Magnolia Home Collection, helped inspire the rest of the design choices in the space. “It connects the neutral color palette with warm sun-washed tones to create the cool California bohemian aesthetic Gina was going for,” Sarah explains. She also made sure that the room’s textiles, including the nubby throw, pillows and accents, featured similar patterns in varied scales, in order to avoid clashing with the statement rug. Her global-inspired pouf easily found a home in the space, repeating the motif of the rug in a larger scale.
When it came to other decor, such as plants that didn’t need a lot of love to be happy, ceramic, wood, and metal trays, and rustic pottery, Sarah chose subtle but impactful items that felt true to Gina’s overall vibe. “I especially love the way the little details tie the room together without being obvious,” Sarah says.
Clearly, Sarah nailed the job, because Gina’s living room is beyond boho chic. We have selected our favorite pieces from Gina Rodriguez’s living room, all available at Bed Bath & Beyond. An added bonus? You can take 20% off right now with this offer from Retail Me Not.
We love how Sarah used this Safavieh Hadwin Oval Concrete Outdoor Coffee Table to mix textures into Gina's living room. And, because it is constructed to weather the wears and tears of the outdoors, it is a lot more durable than your average indoor coffee table.
Again, we love how Sarah used this Safavieh Jaslyn Indoor/Outdoor Concrete Accent to mix some texture and new material into Gina’s living space. And, while it certainly looks expensive, it is one of the most affordable pieces in the room.
The simplicity and clean lines of this Klaussner Upholstered Loose Pillow Back Recliner Sofa make it an aesthetically pleasing choice for any living room. The fact that it looks extremely comfortable is a huge added bonus.
This Safavieh Dilan Safari Chair added just the right amount of midcentury modern to Gina’s space, while keeping with the overall bohemian feel of the room.
An easy way to add a touch of boho style to any room is with the help of a stylish patterned rug. We are obsessed with this Magnolia Home by Joanna Gaines Kasuri Area Rug that Sarah selected as the centerpiece of Gina’s living room. In addition to the tasteful, vintage-inspired pattern it also features tassel fringes, giving it a super retro feel.
A white couch is basically a blank slate until you add some throw pillows. Sarah did an excellent job of strategically selecting throw pillows of various shapes, sizes and textures, giving her sofa that desired California cool look.
Like throw pillows, a throw blanket is a must-have accessory for any white sofa. Sarah selected this Magnolia Home by Joanna Gaines Mackie Throw Blanket, a handcrafted textile with gorgeous fringe and frill detail. Whether your style is boho or farmhouse, this blanket will definitely add some style to any bedroom or living space.

The touch of copper courtesy of this Adesso Willa Arc Floor Lamp added to the vintage feel of Gina’s space. And while the lighting fixture looks like a million bucks, it costs just a little over one hundred.
We love how Gina’s space feels sophisticated, yet oh-so-cozy and youthful. Adding some fun seating options, like this Madison Park Duke Faux Fur Shaggy Bean Bag Chair, definitely added to the laid-back feel of the room.
Sarah scattered decorative trays, in various shapes, sizes and textures, around Gina’s living space. Not only do these accent pieces do their part in giving the space a curated look, they are also great for housing candles, trinkets or other decorative objects.
This two-piece Marmont Hill Dramatic Palms Framed Wall Art Set is available in a variety of sizes, and will give your walls an (affordable!) splash of color.
