Basically Every A-List Celebrity Ever Came Out for This Hurricane Relief Benefit
Last night, countless A-list celebrities filed into ABC’s Times Square studio to partake in the Hand in Hand hurricane relief benefit, which raised $44 million for the victims of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. The hour-long event, which was broadcast from live feeds in Los Angeles, New York, Nashville, and San Antonio, featured performances by Demi Lovato, Dave Matthews, Usher, and more, while Justin Bieber, Tom Hanks, George Clooney, Julianne Moore, Oprah, and others manned the telephones.
Others, including Justin Timberlake, Drake, and Beyoncé, addressed the camera directly, speaking about the devastating natural disasters and the importance of unity. “Natural disasters don’t discriminate. They don’t see if you’re an immigrant, black or white, Hispanic or Asian, Jewish or Muslim, wealthy or poor. It doesn’t matter if you’re from [Houston neighborhoods] Third Ward or River Oaks, we’re all in this together,” said Beyoncé, a Houston native, in a pre-taped video.
“This is what we can give people with our donations tonight. We can}t bring back what they lost, but we can help them know where to take the next step and provide some solid footing for them to place their next foot,” added Matthew McConaughey. Billy Crystal closed out the telethon by thanking everyone at the call centers, and reminding viewers that “this is what America is really about.” See photos from the star-studded event below, and read up on how you can support the hurricane victims next.
