If there's one thing that people universally chase after, it's happiness. This fleeting, elusive feeling has been studied by scientists, psychologists, poets, and artists alike, and it turns out that some places and people really are happier than others. According to the 2018 World Happiness Report, the happiest country in the world is currently Finland.
The report ranks 156 countries by their happiness levels based on pooled results from Gallup World Poll surveys. These findings account for six key variables that are shown to support well-being, including income, healthy life expectancy, social support, freedom, trust, and generosity. This year's report also took immigration into account, ranking 117 countries by the happiness of their immigrants. Finland ranked number one for the happiness of both its general population and its immigrants.
The U.S. came in at number 18, and the UK ranks number 19. If you're thinking of taking a vacation, or perhaps relocating more permanently, take a look at the rest of the top 10 happiest countries below to inspire your next move.
