If anyone tells you they know the key to happiness, they’re probably lying. After all, happiness means different things to different people. Some people find joy in spending a day at the beach with nothing more than a dog-eared copy of their favorite book, while others need a campfire and some ice-cold beers to enter their happy place.
But if there is some kind of system in place that helps determine exactly what makes each individual happy, it may be in the stars. According to astrologer and hypnotist Sandra Sitron of Strong Eye Astrology, a person’s “happy spot” is directly related to their astrological signs. “Happiness really comes from your sense of purpose,” Sitron told Well + Good. To help others find that sense of purpose, Sitron developed short- and long-term happiness goals for each sign, which she teaches at a monthly workshop in Brooklyn.
For example, if you’re an Aries, you take pleasure in leading. For short-term happiness, or what Sitron calls the “quick fix,” she suggests making a decision. For more long-term happiness, an Aries should live a life of total autonomy, stay active, and assume leadership roles both personally and professionally.
On the other hand, Scorpios rely more on other people for happiness than they do themselves. Sitron says that “discovering the emotional depth of another person” is central to Scorpios finding happiness, and that having deep conversations is an immediate way of bringing joy, while forgiveness is the key to happiness in the long-term.
Sitron argues that Virgos find happiness in order and self-improvement, while Leos need recognition. Cancers feel things deeply, and thus find great value in relationships, while Libras look for connection and balance in other people. Astrology has never been an exact science, and Sitron’s teachings may not apply to everyone. But if true happiness is out there, what better place to start than the sky?
