If you've ever spent time watching makeup tutorials on YouTube, trying to achieve the perfect cat eye, or getting that healthy sun-kissed glow, chances are you've come across The Raeviewer. Southern California–based blogger Rae has amassed over 200,000 followers thanks to her in-depth knowledge of skincare routines and thorough product reviews. But it turns out she may also have an eye for décor.
If her apartment is any indication, she places just as much importance in making her space look flawless as she does her skin—and the result is alluring. She recently partnered with West Elm and gut-renovated the two-bedroom apartment she shares with her Australian shepherd, Beau. She invited us in for a tour. Step inside her newly decorated home and snag a few ideas for your own space.
"I have an incredibly handsome dog who sheds more than I do, so 'easy to vacuum' was at the top of my list," says the blogger. The blue-eyed pup matches the dog-proof décor, which is grounded with a resilient cowhide rug.
In her living room, the neutral color scheme is punctuated with a teal-velvet sofa—providing just the right amount of dramatic flair.
Although she's drawn to light and neutral spaces, Rae had always dreamed of having a jewel-toned velvet sofa; she had this one custom-made. In keeping with her minimalistic tendencies, her living room is anchored with this fashion-girl staple.
While Rae thought selecting furniture would be the most challenging part, it turns out that the unforeseen construction issues were an even bigger nightmare. "My apartment was quite old and needed all sorts of extra work, like wiring and plumbing that wasn't budgeted for," she says. "Needless to say, I blew my budget before all the unplanned fixes." That didn't stop her from crafting this perfectly sweet breakfast nook right off the kitchen.
Though on the smaller side, her dining nook is functional and beautifully layered—thanks to a reclaimed wood dining table and a set of white scoop-back chairs.
Though she steers toward cleaner lines, Rae still wanted her home to be functional and comfortable. In her bedroom, she picked a stunning Kelly Wearstler–esque velvet pleated bed by Roar + Rabbit that gives the space a plush feminine vibe.
Because she was determined to keep her bedroom neutral, Rae brought in textures to layer the space: Pin-tucked bedding, the aforementioned pleated bed frame, and brass-inlay nightstands give the space dimension, all the while being monochrome.
At the foot of her bed, a set of velvet swivel chairs covered in sheepskins complete the Old Hollywood feel of the space—perfect for a lifestyle blogger with a penchant for luxury.
Her bathroom is, as you would imagine, filled with hidden storage space to conceal her larger collection of beauty products. The oversize mirror doubles as an extra-large beauty cabinet.
