While herbal teas are hardly a cure-all, they're a great way to subtly support your body's natural processes, whether you're trying to temper anxiety or even support your hormonal health. In that vein, MindBodyGreen senior food editor Liz Moody has had success with one tea in particular: Pukka's Womankind blend.
"I've found a hormone-balancing blend that I can't stop drinking," she writes on the health and wellness site. Womankind blends chamomile, shatavari, licorice root, hibiscus, marigold, beetroot, orange peel, orange essential oil, rose, cranberry, and vanilla for "a loving cup of nourishment to restore your vitality and balance," in the words of Pukka's master herbsmith Sebastian Pole.
Specifically, chamomile is a proven stress-reliever, which helps to balance cortisol levels, while hibiscus and rose are calming anti-inflammatories. Moody even regards vanilla as an "oft-overlooked superfood" for its ability to prevent chronic diseases, reduce inflammation, and protect the heart. Finally, Pole explains that "Shatavari is traditionally used as a female reproductive system tonic, supporting fertility, the menstrual cycle, and hormonal changes."
As far as balancing her hormones, Moody admits that it's still a work in progress. "I didn't get a full blood-panel workup done before and after drinking the tea," she explains. "But it makes hydrating myself infinitely more pleasurable, and there is something about connecting with the idea of nourishing myself as a woman on a daily basis. A tea that's another weapon in any power woman's toolkit for success? I'll drink to that."
