These days, it can feel like the most long-lasting relationships are between a person and the digital appendage that's permanently affixed to their hand. For those who do manage to look up from their phones long enough to enter a relationship, iPhones, Androids, and the like continue to interrupt date nights, Saturday brunches, and weekend getaways—just look around a restaurant.
While having a third and fourth presence in an otherwise monogamous relationship is now commonplace, we can't help but wonder what would it be like to relax and unwind with your significant other sans omnipresent screens. What about for an entire weekend?
The Sanctuary Hotel in New York City wants you to do just that. The Times Square hotel is offering couples a "digital detox" package as a sort of summertime getaway for those who are looking to truly go off the grid. Couples who want to "reconnect while disconnecting" from their smartphones will be forced to part ways with any and all technological devices upon check-in. Tech accessories will be safely locked away during the duration of their stay, and will be returned once couples decide to check out.
While a bit terrifying, the offer does sound intriguing. Aside from the opportunity to connect with your partner on a whole new level, we imagine the experience would feel like time-traveling back to the '90s. What do you think of The Sanctuary's offer? Would you be willing to do a "digital detox" with your partner?
