Achieving your dream home is certainly a goal to aspire toward, but it's not the only way to be happy in your home. In fact, there are dozens of small improvements you can make in your house that can significantly lift your mood and improve your efficiency. Read on for 25 that are tried and true.

  1. Change your light bulbs. The harsh and glaring light generated by certain LED and CFL bulbs can set you on edge. Replace yours with energy-efficient bulbs, such as Finally or Cree, that replicates the warm, cozy feeling of incandescent bulbs.
  2. Install blackout shades. Having trouble sleeping? Install blackout window shades to make your bedroom as light-free as possible, and enjoy a more restful night’s sleep.
  3. Flip your mattress. Back aches? To prevent your mattress from becoming lopsided and losing support, you should flip and rotate it two to four times a year, at regular intervals.
  4. Set up a fly trap. Have fruit flies buzzing around your kitchen? Make a simple, easy, and effective fly trap with a bit of cider vinegar and dish soap in a bowl, and say goodbye to those unwelcome guests.
