It can seem that some are born luckier than others. Certain individuals seem to attract positive energy to the point that good things always come their way. They're in the right place at the right time, they meet the right people who further their career or enhance their social life, they get that lucky break when things could be looking up or down. On the opposite end of the spectrum, some individuals are always complaining that nothing ever goes right for them, and they blame bad luck for their misfortune. If there's an opportunity for something to go wrong, it usually does.
So what is the difference between these two sets of individuals? Are some really just born luckier than others? While a lot of luck might be left up to chance, there are concrete ways you can up your odds. People who seem to attract a lot of good luck are approaching life much differently than the set who always seem to be getting stuck in a rut. Certain proactive activities and a positive mind-set can turn around your fortune for the better. Inc. recently highlighted the actions you can take to increase your chances of good luck coming your way. We've highlighted our favorites here so you can start working toward making yourself luckier and reaping the benefits along the way.
Don't be afraid to dream big. You can't expand your horizons if you don't look beyond what's already in front of you. Allow yourself to put aside your fears and inhibitions and reach beyond your current reality. Even if it seems like a long shot, if there's something you really want, wrap your mind around it and begin perceiving it as a possible reality. You can't work toward something if you set up your own barriers, so break down any walls coming between you and your dream, and good luck might find a way of helping you get there.
Don't be afraid to fail. Oftentimes we avoid taking risks because we're afraid of failing. But without risk-taking, there can be no growth (and no chance for that lucky break). You have to put yourself out there if you want a chance at success, so go out and give it a try. If you don't succeed right away, you'll learn from your mistakes and be better the next time. Few things are accomplished by trying once, so power through and let every experience be an opportunity for growth.
Believe in yourself. If you tell yourself you're unlucky, you probably won't find yourself coming across many lucky breaks. You find what you seek, so shift your attitude if you want your life to become more positive. Declare to yourself that you're equipped to pursue your dreams and succeed and actively seek opportunities for luck. If you believe in yourself, the world will follow suit, and you'll see more luck coming your way.
