Does your stomach fill with dread over the weekend at the mere thought of going back to work on Monday? If you answered yes to this question, it may be time to resign and look for a new job, according to a career expert. While it's common to be consumed by thoughts of work at some point or another—especially on Sunday nights—these so-called "Sunday Scaries" shouldn't be taken lightly.
Business Insider quotes Lynn Taylor, career expert and author of Tame Your Terrible Office Tyrant, who believes your weekend anxiety levels are a clear indicator of whether or not you should leave your current position: "Having the Sunday Night Blues can be a common phenomenon for anyone. You're transitioning from a leisure mindset to work, with all its daily challenges," said Taylor. "But if you're feeling trapped, hopeless, or anxious about your job for weeks or months as you face Monday—it's time to look for greener pastures."
BI is quick to point out just how common the Sunday Scaries are—Monster reports that a whopping 76% of Americans experience feelings of stress and anxiety at the end of the weekend. But if your Sunday blues are so pervasive that they negatively influence your health, it's time to spruce up your résumé and get back on the job market. "The key thing to remember is that you do have choices," concludes Taylor. "Your career future is only limited by your imagination."
