It’s in our nature as human beings to want to succeed. We want to meet or exceed our goals in all aspects of life. From career advancement to physical fitness, we try to do better every day. But sometimes determination is not enough. Some days it’s harder to get motivated than others.
Do you ever have that moment when you could work a little later and try to top last month’s sales but you’re so tired you need to go home? Or maybe you’re on a new fitness regimen and you want to shave a few seconds off your mile time, but your snooze button is far more enticing than the treadmill? We certainly have had those moments. Then we read about the ACRIP method on Business Insider, and our lives changed for the better.
ACRIP, the Awareness and Comparing of Results Improves Performance method, was initially based on this four-step process of measurement:
- Record measurements and results from a process.
- Generate awareness by looking at those results over a period of time.
- Get feedback by presenting the data in one place and comparing it.
- Identify those trends and use that feedback to motivate more positive action and to improve performance.
Accurate, regulated measurements are key to success, but ACRIP relies on one secret to achievement: “We mostly care about ourselves and how we can progress in our own lives.” When we see positive feedback and evidence that we are already improving, we are extremely motivated to extend this upward trend.
So what’s the takeaway? Be your own archrival, and you will work harder to improve your performance than you would when competing against anyone else.
