6 Design Secrets We Learned from Our Favorite Fashion Girls on Instagram

Updated 11/05/18

Inspiration can strike any time, anywhere, but one place we know we can always find it in abundance is Instagram. In fact, that's one of the main reasons we brave the bursts of FOMO that inevitably await us in our Instagram feed… We know we'll also encounter our next best outfit ideas, kitchen experiments, wanderlust bucket list destinations, restaurant recommendations, and interior design solutions.

And when we can get more than one of those things in one single post, we're all ears. To our surprise, we discovered that a lot of our favorite fashion influencers on Instagram post a lot of outfit selfies that also reflect magical interiors. So we started saving all the best mirror selfies that influenced our both sartorial and home décor choices for the better. Take notes from these chic women below to make your #ootd selfies even more stylish.

EMILI SINDLEV

@emilisindlev

Emili Sindlev's looks are iconic, so it's no surprise her taste in interiors is similarly covetable. The bedroom above is the perfect example. While the bones of the space reflect a quintessentially industrial vibe, the large round frameless mirror and geometric side tables introduce a more modern sophistication, and the low-to-the-ground mattress and loose, undone linens soften things up for an approachable and unpretentious yet striking sophistication overall.

@emilisindlev

Sindlev has an impeccable sense of style, partly because she never takes herself too seriously, and isn't afraid to experiment with unconventional silhouettes, prints, and materials. Whether she's dawning romantic floor-length dresses, cutting-edge sunglasses, or cheeky rhinestone belts, she's always ahead of the curve—and in the most playful yet consistent way possible.

BABBA RIVERA

@babba.c

Babba Rivera's Instagram feed is an easy favorite, not only because it has style inspiration on tap, but also because it feels refreshingly uncurated. Don't get us wrong, there's definitely that cool I wish my friends and I were in riding around the Bahamas in golf carts with our cute Frenchie puppies vibe, too, but it feels more like a photo diary of her life as a busy working woman in NYC than one giant sponsored post.

@babba.c

Take, for example, the selfie above. She just threw on a hip red bucket bag and comfortable white jumpsuit, yet the look is still so put together and unique. The same is true for her bedroom. The classic crystal chandelier keeps things elegant and refined, while the Persian rug and artwork in the background bring some color and personality to the pace. It's the perfect backdrop for a mirror selfie and an oasis for unwinding after a long day.

ANNELAURE MAIS MOREAU

@adenorah

If you can't get enough of that French-girl style, you're going to want to sprint on over to AnneLaure Mais Moreau and tap that follow button pronto. Based in Paris, she recently founded her own label, Mousier, and even though she's an influencer with a large following, she's not only all about extravagant photo shoots—a lot of her feed consists of quick outfit selfies.

@adenorah

Luckily for us, she has a lot of good full-length and accent mirrors placed throughout her Parisian-chic apartment so we can take interior design notes from various little nooks. For example, we love the midcentury lines and burnt-orange hue of that sofa peeking out in the back, as well as the large-scale florals and bohemian pouf. Like her style, it's classically romantic with a touch of youth and contemporary flair.

PANDORA SYKES

@pandorasykes

Pandora Sykes is so much more than just a style influencer—she's a witty writer, an engaging speaker, and savvy consultant who also happens to be one of our favorite London It girls. Her personality and fresh take on all things aesthetic, social, and political really do come through across platforms and mediums. And somehow the color story also seems to be cohesive. Take, for example, her mustard blazer, snakeskin blouse, and denim cutoffs here.

@pandorasykes

You think those yellow bananas are accidental?! (Just kidding, they probably are, but we're still styling and posing notes from every last detail.) The kitchen reflects a similar modern twist to traditional touches. The staples, like the navy cabinetry and wood dining table, are classics, but the accent pieces are fun, playful, and contemporary. The photo below is another lesson in interior design camouflage, just with a different color palette.

CHRISSY RUTHERFORD

@chrissyford

As the senior digital fashion editor for Harper's Bazaar, Chrissy Rutherford is constantly running between market appointments and other industry events. She's also the brains behind Harper's Instagram, which is why it's no surprise her personal page is brimming with fashion-savvy content with an insider angle.

@chrissyford

For example, this shot is from the women's bathroom in the West Hollywood Soho House, where the classic black-and-white diamond tiles contrast perfectly with the edgy hot pink wallpaper (you can't tell here, but rather than a classic feminine floral motif, the wallpaper is covered in delicately painted vaginas—now that's a bathroom with a sense of style and humor).
