Italic

If you don’t what Italic is, it's a brand best known for their to-die-for handbags, which are made in the same factory as Christian Dior, Celine, and MCM. They don't skimp on style, but cost a fraction of the price. But Italic’s home goods have equally fabulous origins, as they're made in the same factories with the same top-shelf materials as some of the best labels in the biz.

So, how they come up with such a brilliant idea? Jeremy Cai, the Founder and CEO of Italic, spent most of his career in tech, but grew up with parents in the manufacturing industry. Connecting the dots, he felt consumers deserved a better deal. “Having grown up around that experience, I always found the existing retail supply chain to be incredibly inefficient and unfair towards both consumers and manufacturers," he tells MyDomaine. “After years of preparation and conversations with top factories around the world, we created Italic to establish a fairer model of retail that removes branding from the equation, which ultimately better serves consumers, manufacturers, and the environment.”

Having grown up around that experience, I always found the existing retail supply chain to be incredibly inefficient and unfair towards both consumers and manufacturers.

Cai explains that depending on the brand, and what they believe a customer will pay for their logo, products can be marked up to ten times what they’re worth.

Now, get ready to pick your jaw up off the floor; Because with many high end lines, it turns out those high prices are marketing costs and not really anything else. “The majority of what you pay for in a branded product is the marketing—not the design, materials, or craftsmanship. Brands have sustained this illusion for decades now, with their customers buying heavily marked-up items and their manufacturers only taking a tiny fraction of each sale,” he reveals.

Cookware

Today, Italic branched out into cookware for the first time with a seven-piece set made in the same factories as All-Clad and Calphalon for 40-50% less. Included in the set is a 10-inch frying pan, 3-quart saucepan, 8-quart stockpot, and 3.5 quart sauté pan. All the items except for the frying pan come with matching covers.

The set is made of triple-ply 18/10 stainless steel, so it’s super durable. All the pans are coated in eco-friendly ceramic, so you won’t need to worry about your food sticking or spending too much time cleaning (cooking is hard enough, right?). It’s also free of PFOA, a toxic chemical that can be found in some cookware products.

Bedding

Italic’s bedding is also noteworthy. Available in ivory and light grey, the simple, minimalist look works with every single bed, room and decorating style. These linens are made in the same factory that produces for Frette, Four Seasons, and The St Regis. Italic uses the same raw materials and craftsmen as those brands.

Made of long-staple cotton sateen, this bedding gets softer with every wash. Did we mention it has a 400 thread count, which is higher than those ultra luxury lines? So, you really can’t make a mistake here. It’s essentially like sleeping in a 5-star hotel bed without the reservation.

All fabrics are ISO 9001 and OEKO-TEX certified, which means they aren’t just high quality, but they’re also free of hazardous chemicals.

Towels

In October, Italic launched its towel line. Made in the same factories as Calvin Klein and Fendi (for 40% less), the collection includes washcloths, hand towels, bath towels, and bath sheets.

Currently, towels are only offered in light grey, but the neutral aesthetic is suitable for every bathroom. The best deal is the six-piece Serene Towel Set, which has two washcloths, hand-towels, and bath towels. This makes a great housewarming gift (that will actually get used) or holiday present. Made of OKEO-TEX certified 100% Australian cotton, they’re soft and highly absorbent. So, essentially everything you want in a towel and more.

What's Next

As for what’s next for Italic, they’re going big with plans to expand into a wide variety of categories including luggage, activewear, skincare and more.
