It was only a matter of time before Hollywood looked to put its stamp on the ongoing Theranos saga, so what better way to do that than with Jennifer Lawrence leading the charge? According to Deadline, the actress is circling a project that would see her play the biomedical company’s embattled CEO Elizabeth Holmes, with The Big Short’s Adam McKay attached to direct.
Holmes’s fall from grace has been both swift and well documented. Since emerging as the darling of Silicon Valley thanks to its groundbreaking blood testing technology, Theranos has been embroiled in one controversy after another, but none bigger than its Edison drug testing kits, which have come under fire after claims of inaccurate results.
Holmes, meanwhile, who once topped the list of Forbes’s richest self-made women, has reportedly seen her entire $4.5 billion fortune disappear. If there’s anyone capable of pulling off that kind of dramatic arc, it’s Lawrence, who in just a few years has established herself as one of the most talented actresses on the planet.
While the project has not yet found a home, Variety is reporting that Lawrence and McKay will be pitching the film to studios next week, which will likely incite a bidding war of epic proportions for what’s sure to be a major award season contender once it hits a theater near you.
