Just Wow: Inside a Modern Family Star's Dramatic Spanish Colonial Home

Emily Berl for Architectural Digest

At first glance, Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson's home is nothing short of dramatic, with Gothic-painted ceilings and stately chandeliers. Take a closer look, though, and you'll see a flicker of humor, a decorating style that no doubt mirrors the actor's tongue-in-cheek character and relationship with his husband, activist and social innovator Justin Mikita.

It's a stark change from the original 1928 Spanish Colonial manse, in which every room was classic and white, he tells Architectural Digest. "[We] knew how beautiful it could be. I felt like with the help of Peter you just have to embrace that and go boldly forward and not be afraid of color and pattern clashing," says Ferguson of working with Will & Grace set decorator-turned–interior designer Peter Gurski. The result is rich and layered yet playful and personality-packed. Take a look inside the gorgeous Los Feliz home below, and head to Architectural Digest for the full tour.
