Total Makeover: Inside Katherine Power's Elegant New Office

In addition to our makeover of our co-founder Hillary Kerr's office, we also recently gave our co-founder Katherine Power's office a major transformation (it's only fair). Infusing style into the space was a given, but many of our primary objectives were functional.

Since launching Who What Wear in 2006, Power's role with the company has evolved, she tells us. "I needed a different type of workspace to accommodate all of the things I do here, from one-on-one meetings to brainstorming with three or four team members over a table of documents or photos." To that end, we created two distinct seating areas in addition to her desk. One includes her sofa, which we reupholstered in a nubby linen, a linear stool from West Elm, and an armchair from Ballard Designs; this area serves as the perfect spot for smaller discussions. In the other area, we surrounded a white Tulip table with a pair of bentwood chairs and a French bistro chair, which Power picked up on a trip to the Rose Bowl Flea Market.

Encouraging focus was also an objective, although means to that end may surprise you. "I thrive in an ADD type of environment where there is a lot going on," Power says. "I need constant stimulation." Above Power's sofa, we installed a flat-screen television, on which she regularly plays E! Entertainment on mute. "Having that channel going also keeps me up to date on pop culture," she says. As for the room's color palette, we kept it light and airy: "I wanted a space that feels calm and focused, like I need to be!" she says.

To keep her inspired, we integrated a few of her favorite things. "I love having fresh flowers and a Diptyque or La Labo candle burning," she says. Sentimental pieces can make an office feel more like home, so Power displayed a photo from her wedding, as well as some beautiful images from a recent trip to Paris with friends. "I also have this amazing vintage photo viewer that Kat (my former assistant, now editor) made for me. It flips through many old photos of me and Hillary throughout the years."

Brass lighting, such as Lamps Plus's Mercer Sconces and Eldridge Pendant brought ambience and an Old World elegance to the space, which is very true to Power's aesthetic. "My style is very classic, with a lot of European influence," she says. "I've always been drawn to brass. It feels very rich." Touches of the metal continue in the room vja Wisteria's French Gilt Mirror and Arterior's sculptural shields, while black and white pieces like Arianna Belle's pillows and AllModern's white credenza contribute timeless sophistication.

While we love how the artful accents certainly speak to Power's chic personal style, we were most pleased to hear that Power "feels more settled, like there is a bit more order." Isn't that the best way to feel at work?
