Home offices can be tricky spaces to tackle. They combine both personal and professional needs and directly impact one's productivity and creativity. Author and blogger Katherine Schwarzenegger, who does most of her writing from home, knows this well. Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger's eldest daughter recently teamed up with her younger sister, Christina, and Joss & Main to make over the home office and living room of her L.A. home.
"In the office, it was all about building on what was already in the room and giving Katherine a chic and uncluttered space to write and work," explains Donna Garlough, Joss & Main's style director. Schwarzenegger describes her personal style as feminine, comfy, and sexy with an L.A. edge. "It's also evolved a lot over the years and will continue to do so as I get older," she says.

"For the living room, I really wanted to keep the open layout but make it feel cozy and comfortable," explains Schwarzenegger. "I added a hint of darkness to match the hardware of the light fixtures and the curtains, while still maintaining an overall neutral feel."
Joss & Main Duprey Arm Chair ($350).
"I love and appreciate interior design, but I also get overwhelmed by it, and my sister is amazing at it, so I loved having her to help me and for us to do these two rooms together. I had an idea of what I wanted—what things were essential in each room—but she guided me and helped me the whole time."
"I knew I didn't want an overly formal living room but more of a place that's inviting, relaxing, and more casual," notes Schwarzenegger. "It was also important to me that the living room look chic in the daytime and nighttime, and I think we accomplished that with these colors and furniture choices."
"My office area was a space where I wanted a little more color," says Schwarzenegger. "The curtains were navy so I wanted to have that color picked up in the pillows and other accent pieces."
"I also wanted the office space to be calming and sleek yet functional, as I do most of my work from home," she explains. "I loved this desk as soon as I saw it online. It's long enough where I can keep my papers and files out, but I also have space for my computer and planner."
Joss & Main Mia Writing Desk ($750).
"I loved the layering of the metallic cowhide over the sisal rug. I'm kind of obsessed with that, but I was very unsure of it in the beginning."
Joss & Main Sonia Bookcase ($220).
