Few things are more covetable than a spacious walk-in closet. Lucky for two-time Emmy-nominated Entertainment Tonight correspondent and creator and co-host of the Ladygang podcast, Keltie Knight has a new home that came with the perfect space for a walk-in closet—all it needed was a bit of renovation. Located in the historical district of Whitley Heights in the Hollywood Hills of Los Angeles, the home uniquely had a small spare room in the primary bedroom perfect for renovating into a walk-in closet.
Primary Bedroom
The term “Primary Bedroom” is now widely used to describe the largest bedroom in the home, as it better reflects the space’s purpose. Many realtors, architects, interior designers, and the Real Estate Standards Association have recognized the potentially discriminatory connotations in the term “Master.” Read more about our Diversity and Inclusion Pledge.
"As a journalist, I travel a ton. I'm always packing and unpacking. I wanted to be able to have a space for everything and not have to add too many extra bins and buckets to make it work," explains Knight. Her dream of having a functional and trendy closet came true through her hands-on home-improvement project. "The style of the closet is California cool and chic," says Knight. Although, it didn't start that way.

"The room was bare and had this horrible gray plastic laminate flooring," remembers Knight. With a bit of work and customization, it transformed into a seriously gorgeous closet space.

The first thing Knight did was replace the flooring with wide-plank, white-oak engineered flooring from Wayfair. Next, it was custom closeting from EasyClosets, a runner rug from Etsy, and matte black handles from Amazon, which Knight installed herself.

"I knew I wanted my closet to be extra girlie because the rest of my house is pretty neutral," says Knight. No girlie closet would be complete without ample shoe storage and display space.

"I already had an entire closet of black velvet hangers and a bunch of organizing pieces from my last home. I love to follow The Home Edit and used their recommendations of acrylic pieces to organize my clutches and purses. Everything else is new," she says.

With plenty of shelf space, Knight has room to properly display all her jewelry and small items.

Knight uniquely displays her wedding bouquet in the roomy walk-in closet. "I love having my wedding bouquet out on the shelf in its special box to see every day. It's so meaningful and I think a really cool way to display something so important," she says.

It's all in the details. This delicate cross-stitch sits in the corner to send a message of encouragement.

There's even room for fashion books to serve as daily inspiration.

"I love my vintage 'You Better Work Bitch' print," says Knight. It's the perfect wall art to motivate her to get ready for the day ahead.

"The pink poof my assistant Elena found at Goodwill for $20. It was brand-new with tags," Knight boasts. It's perfect for laying out accessories ahead of time.

According to Knight, her now-perfected walk-in closet is about the same size as the bedroom she had in her New York City apartment when she was first starting out. She's certainly come a long way from that tiny apartment and has created the closet of everyone's dreams.
