The One Room Lindley Arthur Will Never Forget

Interior designers and other experts in the home industry work on an impressive number of spaces throughout their careers. But even if some of the makeovers and redesigns start to blend together after a few years, there are some rooms that are just truly unforgettable. 

So, to give designers a chance to revisit their favorite projects—and to bring you plenty of inspiration for your own home—we’re sharing the one room these pros will remember forever. For some, there’s a sentimental connection, for others, there was an obstacle they never thought they’d overcome. But no matter what, these rooms are worth remembering.

When designing this spacious, formal dining room, Lindley Arthur had the perfect opportunity to mix and match old and new.

“This room will always stick out in my mind—it is the perfect example of blending a client’s beloved pieces with new ones to create a space that is beautiful and purposeful,” she reflects. 

During the design process, well-loved furnishings and accents received upgrades to better suit the space.

“The client’s own dining chairs were repurposed by applying an antiqued finish which elevated the frames, and upholstering the cushions in a kid-friendly faux leather,” Arthur explains. “The glass lamps were also a beloved item from the client’s collection, that I updated with custom shades.”

The client at hand? Arthur’s own sister! “This was such a fun project for me because she completely trusted me,” Arthur reflects.

When addressing the space, one of Arthur’s main concerns was making the larger-than-average dining room feel nice and intimate. So, she took to the walls.

“I utilized a Phillip Jeffries ‘Eiffel’ wallcovering to envelope the room in color and texture while also creating architectural interest,” Arthur explains. The print ended up being a fantastic backdrop for all of the original art pieces that were commissioned for the space.

“The wallpaper is a subtle backdrop against the bolder abstract from Amy Donaldson and the series of modern botanicals from Lindsey Porter,” Arthur explains, noting that this type of layering continues to be an inspiration in her work.

Luckily for Arthur, she gets to appreciate the completed dining space quite frequently. She says, “Every time we celebrate the holidays at her home, I get to sit in the space and really enjoy it.”
