Gourmet ice cream is having a moment. Gone are the days of simple chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry flavors. If you know where to look, you can find everything from avocado-inspired treats, activated charcoal concoctions, and wasabi sorbet (yes, that's really a thing). Now, an unlikely eatery is joining the ranks of hipster ice cream parlors that aren't afraid to combine the most innovative flavors into a chilled dessert worthy of an Instagram post: McDonald's.
The fast-food giant is now offering a lavender-colored sweet potato ice cream swirled atop an Oreo waffle cone, Insider reports. Made with purple sweet potatoes, the newest addition to the McDonald's menu is bursting with unexpected flavors that vary from the traditional vanilla cones and McFlurry's most know and love.
Sadly, you'll have to plan a trip to Hong Kong in order to try the buzzworthy ice cream. It's currently only available at select locations in the bustling travel destination. Think of this sweet treat as one more reason to add Hong Kong to your travel bucket list.
If you can't make it to Hong Kong, try whipping up your own deluxe ice cream at home.
