Actress and producer Meg Ryan is a force to be reckoned with both on-screen and in the director's chair. But the When Harry Met Sally star also has "great instincts" as a decorator, according to her newly hired interior designer Monique Gibson, as told to Architectural Digest. Gibson helped Ryan reimagine her SoHo loft—a project that marks the actress's ninth home renovation. "I know it sounds crazy to most people, the idea of renovating that many houses," Ryan told AD. "But I love renovating. I think it's tied to living the actor's life.
As an actor, you are so rarely in control. But with decorating I am in control."
Ryan's eye for design is boldly reflected in her new art-filled home, an apartment Ryan first visited some 15 years earlier for a party. She settled on the space after deciding to find something more permanent—a refreshing change of pace for someone who has lived the globe-trotting actor's life for roughly 30 years. "Meg's super knowledgeable about design and interiors. She could be a designer!" remarked Gibson. "And the place represents her spirit. When you go to Meg's house for dinner, she answers the door barefoot, and the house has that kind of immediate intimacy that sets you at ease.
That's all her."
