This Wednesday, Christie's London will auction off the estate of acclaimed British interior designer Michael Inchbald, who passed away last year, in a sale titled Michael Inchbald: A Legacy of Design. Aptly described, Inchbald is a legacy, having established the first interior design school in Europe, London's Inchbald School of Design, one of the most respected design schools worldwide.
Inchbald designed celebrated spaces like the Queen's room of the Queen Elizabeth 2 cruise ship and much-heralded projects for the Savoy and Berkeley Hotels, but one of his greatest successes was the design of his own London home, Stanley House. The sale will feature Inchbald's expansive personal collection from Stanley House, including furniture, sculpture, antiquities, clocks, Old Master paintings and drawings, arms and armour, European and Chinese porcelain, silver, books, and scientific instruments. The sale begins on Jan. 22 at 10:30 a.m. at Christie's in London.

His quote, to first get the "bones" of a house correct, has always remained with me as sound advice." - Lady Henrietta Spencer-Churchill[/caption]
